Meta launches paid subscriptions for Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp users

The company plans to test subscriptions on selected new features, such as the video generation app “Vibes,” which allows users to turn their ideas into images and visuals using AI tools. Meta had announced the app as part of the latest version of Meta AI last September.

Meta also aims to leverage the artificial intelligence company Manus, which it acquired last December for approximately $2 billion, as part of its paid subscription plans, while continuing to offer independent services to businesses. Integrating Manus’s capabilities would enable the introduction of so-called “agents”—tools capable of independently performing complex tasks such as trip planning or preparing presentations.

The Manus service is distinguished by its ability to carry out tasks autonomously based on instructions, unlike traditional chatbots that require repeated prompts to achieve the desired results.

This move comes as part of Meta’s ongoing experiments with paid services, including limits on the number of links that can be posted on Facebook and tests of paid account verification, which grants users the blue checkmark for a monthly fee since 2023.
