Until 2023, China's internet has maintained its position as the world's fastest, boasting an incredible data transfer speed of 1.2 terabytes per second. This achievement significantly surpasses speeds available in many other countries, establishing China as a leader in internet infrastructure development.
Spanning over 3,000 kilometers of optical fiber, the new network connects Beijing, Wuhan, and Guangzhou. Its remarkable speed enables the transmission of 150 4K movies in under a second and the entire Netflix library globally in less than half an hour.
Activated last July and officially launched recently, the network has successfully cleared all operational tests, marking a significant milestone in the realm of communications. This success is the fruit of collaboration between Tsinghua University, Huawei Technologies, and Cernet Corporation.
The FIT project, initiated in 2013 and supported by the Chinese government, managed by the Ministry of Education, and involving over 40 universities, underscores China's dedication to reducing reliance on the United States and Japan for routers and other internet technology components.
