Google Messages Introduces 'Delete for Everyone' Feature Similar to WhatsApp: Here's What to Know

Previously, users could only delete a message for themselves—removing it from their device but not from others' view.

According to 9to5Google, the new “Delete for Everyone” option allows users to completely remove a message from the chat, making it invisible to all participants. However, recipients using older versions of the app may still see the message.

The feature is part of the Universal Profile 2.7 update, which includes enhancements like message editing, message recall, and the ability to delete messages for both sender and recipients.

A beta user first spotted the feature in a group chat with 12 members, while it remained unavailable in smaller group or one-on-one chats—indicating the feature may be in limited testing or rolling out gradually.

New ‘Unsubscribe’ Tool to Tackle Spam

In addition, Google is introducing an “Unsubscribe” option in the Messages app to help users reduce unwanted promotional and marketing messages. This tool is aimed at curbing SMS and RCS spam from businesses by providing a clear unsubscribe button.
