Netflix Enters the World of TV Gaming for the First Time

Previously, the company had offered its games exclusively on smartphones for the past four years, where subscribers used their phones as controllers. Now, the games will appear on the big screen, with players using their phones as controllers by scanning a QR code.

Greg Peters, Netflix’s co-CEO, stated that gaming is a core part of the company’s future. Alan Tascan, head of Netflix Games, added that Netflix’s success in this field depends on integrating games with the company’s entertainment content and engaging users directly from the TV’s main screen — a strategy that sets it apart from previous unsuccessful attempts by other companies to enter the gaming market.

Netflix is focusing on four main categories: kids’ games, party games, popular titles like Grand Theft Auto, and games based on Netflix’s own shows, such as Stranger Things. The company has also invested in expanding its cloud server capacity to meet the growing demand.
