According to the company, ChatGPT will be able to search for products requested by the user, and if they are available on Etsy or Shopify, a “Buy” button will appear, enabling payment using a pre-registered card or other payment options.
The new feature is based on Stripe’s Agentic Commerce protocol and is currently available to ChatGPT users on the Plus and Pro plans, as well as free users in the United States.
At this first stage, the feature supports purchasing only a single product, with plans to later support adding multiple items to a shopping cart and expanding to include more merchants and countries worldwide. Merchants can already apply to join the service by building their own integrations.
OpenAI confirmed that products available through the new feature will not receive priority in ChatGPT search results. Instead, results will be determined by factors such as price, quality, and availability, in addition to whether instant checkout is enabled, in order to ensure a balanced user experience.
