After Usernames… WhatsApp Launches a New Feature

The new “Username” field appears between the first and last name fields and the phone number section when creating a new contact within the app. According to tech reports, WhatsApp plans to eventually populate this field automatically from the chat information screen, making it easier to link people’s and businesses’ details to their unique identifier in the address book.

This step is an extension of the username reservation phase previously introduced by the platform to enhance privacy and reduce the need to share personal phone numbers. The feature is currently available to a number of beta testers and some users of stable versions, ahead of its global rollout.
