According to PhoneArena, users can now listen to online articles, as Google is enhancing the “Listen to this page” feature in Chrome for Android using artificial intelligence.
Users have noticed the appearance of the new “Audio Summary” option for pages. It’s not just text-to-speech; rather, it generates a short podcast-like audio file, where two synthetic voices summarize the key points of the content.
This feature aims to make reading long articles easier and more engaging. It’s now available for users of the stable version of Chrome on Android, after first appearing in the beta version before being rolled out widely.
How to use Audio Summaries:
-
Open an article in Chrome for Android.
-
Tap the menu icon (three dots) in the top-right corner.
-
Select “Listen to this page,” then in the control panel, tap the “Audio Summary” button to enable the feature.
Why this feature matters:
It makes information more accessible. Instead of spending ten minutes reading an article, you can listen to a two-minute summary while multitasking. It’s especially helpful for users with visual impairments or those who simply prefer listening over reading.
This isn’t the first time Google has introduced such a feature, but adding it to Chrome is significant. The idea is inspired by Google’s NotebookLM and Gemini apps. Bringing it to Chrome—one of Google’s most important products—makes it accessible to a huge number of users, turning any webpage into a concise, easy-to-digest audio summary.
