The new update allows users to relocate the address bar, along with the tab switcher, the three-dot menu, and other tools, to the bottom of the screen. However, users who prefer the traditional layout can still keep the address bar at the top.
Google explained that this feature is part of efforts to make the browser interface more customizable. The company stated:
“Depending on the size of your hand or your device, having the address bar at the bottom may feel more comfortable. That’s why we designed this update to give you the freedom to choose the position that suits you best for smoother browsing.”
To activate the new feature, users can simply long-press on the address bar, where a menu will appear with the option to “Move address bar to bottom” as well as “Copy link.” This setting can also be managed through the Address Bar settings.
Google has started rolling out the feature today, and it will be available to all users over the coming weeks. To ensure access, users should make sure they have the latest version of Chrome installed via the Google Play Store.
It's worth noting that this feature has been available on iOS since 2023, while on Android, Google has been testing the idea for years, with trials starting in October 2024.
