World's best restaurants for 2022 revealed

Geranium Restaurant serves a meat-free menu on the eighth floor of the Danish National Football Stadium. Open four days a week, Chef Rasmus Kofod and owner Soren Liedet wanted to maintain a work-life balance.

The two friends cuddled happily as their restaurant was announced as the best restaurant in the world at the lavish party held on the night of Monday 18 July at London's Old Billingsgate, a Victorian building that was once the world's largest fish market.

Hollywood actor and CNN host Stanley Tucci presented the event, shining in a white jacket on one of the UK's hottest days of the year.

South American restaurants performed well. In Lima, the capital of Peru, Central was in second place, while Maido, which serves Japanese-Peruvian cuisine, took 11th place.

In the Brazilian city of São Paulo, A Casa do Porco took seventh place.

Spain's performance this year has also been strong. Disfrutar from Barcelona took third place, Diverxo from Madrid took fourth place, and Asador Etxebarri came in sixth place.

Mexico City also had a share, with Pujol taking fifth place, the best restaurant in North America of the year, and Quintonil taking ninth place.

An Asian restaurant did not appear until the 20th place, with the Japanese restaurant Den in Tokyo taking over.

In the twenty years that the list of the best restaurants in the world has been released, no restaurant outside Europe or North America has taken the first place. All of the top restaurants were from Spain, the United States, the United Kingdom, Denmark, Italy and France.
