The tech landscape has recently witnessed rapid developments in the field of artificial intelligence, where these technologies have become an essential part of major companies’ services.
In this context, growing concerns have emerged about potential security vulnerabilities that may arise from the excessive reliance on intelligent systems to manage sensitive data and user accounts.
A recent technical report revealed a serious security flaw in Meta’s AI-based support system, which allowed attackers to take control of accounts on Instagram, including high-profile accounts. This was done by manipulating an automated support bot and convincing it to grant access permissions to targeted accounts.
According to the report, attackers exploited the Meta AI Support Assistant bot, which is designed to help users recover accounts and resolve technical issues.
The hackers were able to instruct the bot to add a new email address to the victim’s account, and then use password reset procedures to gain full control of the account.
