Josh Woodward, Google’s VP of Gemini, confirmed in a post on X that audio file support was the most requested feature from users.
Free version users will be able to upload audio clips up to 10 minutes long with 5 requests per day, while AI Pro or AI Ultra subscribers will be able to upload files up to 3 hours long, with support for up to 10 files in multiple formats, including compressed files.
With this new audio file support, users can now upload meeting recordings, lectures, or interviews and convert them into text, summaries, or key point highlights—boosting productivity and reducing reliance on manual note-taking.
The feature also adds flexibility by supporting multiple audio file types, making it a practical tool for students, researchers, and journalists alike. Moreover, combining Gemini’s analytical capabilities with audio files opens the door to extracting key ideas and patterns from recorded material, providing users with a more personalized and valuable experience.
As for the NotebookLM platform, it has received a significant update that enables users to generate reports in different formats such as study notes, essays, flashcards, and quizzes, available in more than 80 languages.
These reports are based on the files, documents, and media uploaded by the user, with customization options for format, style, and structure. Google confirmed that the feature will be fully available by the end of this week.
