Facebook is planning to change its name to reflect its upcoming projects in creating a virtual world of "Metaverse", according to "The Verge", citing an informed source.
The site indicated that Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg intends to mention the name at the company's annual "Connect" conference on October 28, but it is likely that the name will be announced earlier.
The new name will reflect the company's ambition to become more than a company specialized in social networking sites, and the new name may place the blue Facebook brand under the umbrella of a parent company that supervises other groups, such as Instagram, WhatsApp, Oculus, and others.
A Facebook spokesperson declined The Verge's request for comment on the story.
And Facebook announced the provision of 10,000 jobs to develop "Metaverse", which is expected to shape the future of the Internet, as it will create an integrated virtual world using 3D technology.
